Lake - Stockton 10/03/04 :
Main Lake: If the wind is blowing on the point
throw mid running crankbaits like a Norman deep little N in a shad or fire
tiger pattern on secondary points. If there is no wind back out to about 25'
and fish a Jewel 5/8 oz. football or 5/16 oz. spider jig in brown/ purple
flash or Missouri craw, both with a green pumpkin twin tailed trailer on these
same points, pay close attention to your line most of the bites are nothing
more than your line going slack or a soft / spongy feeling and a loss of bottom
contact.
Above The Bridges: A buzz bait and spinnerbait
through most of the day if you have wind, in addition a rattle trap or a Bagley's
square bill in a shad or fire tiger will work as well in shallow pockets with
shad in them. The key to either of the baits is to keep them in and around
any wood cover near shad, the shad do not have to be in the cover just near
by for the bait to be effective. An Eakins' flippin jig with a zoom chunk
trailer or an 8" red shad worm is also working around laydowns and log
jams, this is an effective pattern on calm days.
Crappie fishing has gotten a little better,
the cooler weather is getting things started, fish minnows around wood cover
10' - 25' deep.
Walleye fishing is still good, with most of
the action coming from trolling crankbaits on flats or casting medium running
crankbaits on flat ledge rock points.
White bass fishing continues to be hit and
miss, most of the fish are being caught on windy days when the fish trap shad
on shallow flats.
