Lake - Stockton 10/09/04 :
Main Lake: Still catching a few on mid running
crankbaits like a Norman deep little N in a shad or fire tiger pattern on
secondary points with a little wind it is a bit of a mixed bag of both large
mouth and walleyes, look for shad to be successful. If there is no wind back
out to about 25' and fish a Jewel 5/8 oz. football or 5/16 oz. spider jig
in brown/ purple flash or Missouri craw, both with a green pumpkin twin tailed
trailer on these same points.
Above The Bridges: Look for shad on wind blown
flats and flat points and throw white / chartreuse spinnerbaits with double
colorado blades. If you find shad in the backs of pockets through a rattle
trap or a Bagley's square bill in a shad or fire tiger. Throw the baits close
to and around any wood cover near shad, the shad do not have to be in the
cover just near by for the bait to be effective. Throw an Eakins' flippin
jig with a zoom chunk trailer or an 8" red shad worm around any laydowns
and log jam you come across the fish in these spots tend to be bigger.
Crappie fishing is getting better, allot of
fish being caught on both tube jigs in white / chartreuse and on minnows,
either case fish in the trees or brush piles in about 15'-20' of water.
Walleye fishing is good, some fish are moving
back into the creeks and coves following shad and can be caught on crankbaits,
while others are still being caught trolling spinner rigs with live night
crawlers between 8' -15' on main lake flats. Windy days seem to be better
for the crankbait bite.
White bass fishing is still pretty slow, there
are some surfacing fish early and late but they following shad making it tough
to pattern them.
