Missouri Lakes Fishing Report
Lake - Stockton 07/02/05:
Main Lake: The lake is still a little over pool and a lot of
fish can be caught flipping the flooded bushes and timber, an Eakins' jig
in Missouri Craw with a Chompers jig trailer is a great choice or a Chompers
salty sinker in green pumpkin fished weightless will also work well. Better
fish seem to be holding in deeper water off of main lake and secondary points,
fish a Jewel 5/16 oz. spider jig in brown / purple flash with a 4" Chompers
jig trailer from 10' - 25' deep, maintain contact with the bottom and pay
close attention most of the bites are extremely subtle.
Above the bridges: Flippin a black / blue flash Eakins' flippin jig with
a Zoom super chunk jr. in blue in both the flooded brush and log jams along
the river channel will produce several bites but most of the fish will be
small. Better fish are also on wood cover but they are holding on deeper
drops or close to deep water and can be caught on the Eakins' jig or switch
to a 10" power worm in blue fleck with a 5/16 oz. weight. You can also
catch a few fish shallow on a Lucky Craft R.C. 1.5 by making repeated casts
to shallow wood cover in the backs of creeks or on main lake flats.
Most of the walleye have been caught in the evenings either casting or trolling
deep diving crankbaits on main lake flats.
Crappie are still being caught on live minnows in and around brush 20' -
30' deep.
