Missouri Lakes Fishing Report
Lake - Stockton 07/09/05:
Main Lake: With all of the current they have been running through
the dam your best bet has been to look to long tapering pea gravel / chunk
rock mixed points on the main lake or in major creek arms. Jewel football
and spider jigs in brown / purple flash a green pumpkin Chomper jig trailer
or a Carolina rigged lizard, baby brush hog or sweet beaver in green pumpkin
have been the most productive baits. Work your way around the point starting
on the inside and make long casts cover all anglers all the way around the
point, when you catch a fish pay close attention to the depth and the location
since most of the fish have been grouped together.
Above the bridges: With the lake being back below pool most of the willows
and shore line cover is high and dry and the fish have moved to brush piles
and off shore structure. A brown or black / blue flash Eakins' jig with a
matching 4" Chompers jig trailer or a 7" blue fleck or red shad
worm fished in the brush piles or on main lake and secondary points will
produce several bites. In addition a few fish can be caught on flats on the
main lake and in the backs of creeks with a Lucky Craft RC 1.5 fished around
dead heads and other wood cover.
Deep diving crankbaits in the evenings are producing some nice fish on main
lake flats; in the daytime your best bet is to troll crawler harnesses on
these same flats 12' - 20' deep.
Live minnows are your best bet for crappie right now.
