Missouri Lakes Fishing Report
Lake - Stockton 07/25/05:
Main Lake: Most of the fish on the main lake are still relating
to points and deep brush, a Carolina rigged Chomper Salty Sinker in green
pumpkin or a Missouri Craw Jewel spider jig with a 4" green pumpkin
jig trailer will get you plenty of bites. Look for points that contain
a mix of
pea gravel and either chunk rock or ledge rock near deep water. Hold
your boat in the deeper water and fan cast the point until you find the
depth the
fish are holding in and concentrate your efforts in that depth.
Above the bridges: The best bite has been around log jams and
deep brush on some of the deeper channel swings on the main lake and in major
creek arms, throw either an Eakins' Flippin' jig in black / blue flash with
a matching Eakins' craw or a Chomper ultra tube in green pumpkin / orange
with a 3/16 oz. weight. Fish as deep into the cover as possible concentrating
on shady areas. If you find shad in the backs of any creeks or coves throw
a Lucky Craft R.C. 1.5 around any wood cover that is back there.
Walleye fishing continues to be tough with most of the fish being caught on
crawler harnesses trolled or even drifted over main lake flats.
Live minnows in the trees 20' - 30' deep is your best bet in
the day time for crappie, a couple of reports of a much better night bite
using lights in the same areas but not nearly as deep.
