Missouri Lakes Fishing Report
Lake - Stockton 07/31/05:
Main Lake: The bite up on the main lake continues to be centered
on deeper points and bluff ends, look for fish to be from 8’ – 25’ deep
on transition areas where fist sized rock changes over to bigger rock.
Your best bet is an Eakins’ jig in Missouri craw with a green pumpkin
Chomper jig trailer, cast the bait to the bank and work all the way back
to the boat. Rip rap is also holding a few fish as well, use the same jig
and trailer and concentrate on the small points and indentations along
a rip rap bank.
Above the bridges: Early and late there is a good top water bite on Stockton,
not many keepers but the bite is still fun. As the sun gets up switch over
to an Eakins’ jig in black / blue flash with a matching Eakins’ craw
and work deep transition banks on both the main lake and in the major creek
arms. Carolina rigged lizards and salty sinkers are also productive with
most of the fish coming in the 15 – 20’ range on pea gravel
/ chunk rock mixed points.
Walleye fishing is best done by trolling right now, early evening and
night time anglers are catching most of the fish with mid depth running
shad colored crankbaits.
Night fish is your best bet for crappie, brush and timber 15 – 25
feet deep with live minnows under a floating light will fill your cooler.
