Missouri Lakes Fishing Report

Lake - Table Rock 05/29/05:

Kimberling City Area: Most of the fish have started to transition to more of summer pattern, look for them to be on pea gravel points and flats near deep water relating to shad. If the wind is blowing you can catch fish as shallow as 6' deep swimming a 4" Chompers single tail grub on a 1/4 oz. head. If it is the fish will be much deeper as deep as 40' on some banks, switch over to a Jewel 5/8 oz. football jig or 5/16 oz. spider jig in PB&J or brown / purple flash either one with a Chompers 5" jig trailer. Drag the jig on the bottom and pay close attention because the bite is extremely light.

James River: There are a couple of patterns working up the james right now; Green pumpkin or watermelon candy 6" lizards and baby brush hogs on Carolina rigs fished from 8' - 25' deep on pea gravel points, flats and pockets close to deep water. The fish seem to be moving up and back through out the day to feed, wind or a group of bait fish moving into the are will trigger a good bite. You can also catch several fish around docks on an Eakins' jig, fish all of the corners around the dock thoroughly until you figure out where they are holding on the docks. The best colors have been Missouri craw and brown / purple flash, an Eakins' craw in green pumpkin is your best trailer.

White River: The fish don't seem to be as deep on the White and Kings rivers right now, still catching fish on pea gravel in 8' - 15' deep with a split shot rigged Chompers needle worm or drop shot worm . Further up both rivers the fish are relating to bigger rock and transition areas near main river and larger creek channel swing banks. An Eakins' jig in brown / purple flash or PB&J both with a green pumpkin Chompers 4" jig trailer as been catching most of the fish.

Dam Area: Single tail 4" Chompers grubs on 1/4 oz. head fish on windy pea gravel banks is hard to beat, smallmouth and Kentuckies will move up as shallow as 3' deep and school. If it is calm try a Redfin early on deeper points and bluff ends, as the day goes on move to pea gravel and drag a Jewel 5/16 oz. spider jig in PB&J or brown / purple flash with a green pumpkin Chomper jig trailer. Fish the jig from 10' - 30' deep and pay close attention because most of the bites have been very light.
