Missouri Lakes Fishing Report
Lake - Bull Shoals 03/04/06:
Bull Shoals Lake in Missouri ,home of the record State Largemouth Bass ----
FISHING REPORT ---Pontiac -Theodosia arm. This report is compiled and submitted
as a community service by Spring Creek Enterprises
The lake is low and still dropping .It is advised to take extreme caution when
running the lake. Areas that normally would not cause a problem are now hazardous.
The weather recently skyrocketed into the 80s about three days ago and now has
reverted back to the high 40s in the daytime. Fishing has been sporadic with
various baits catching a few, but not many.
Bass are feeding in the smaller streams and are tight along the shore lines.
Stick baits are the most popular right now, with the Rattlin Rouge getting the
top nod. The favorite color is purple. The best advice I can give you is to fish
this bait SLOW. Twitch it, let it be for a long time. When you think its time
to twitch it again count to twenty before doing so. Some anglers are using crank
baits to some degree of success. The wiggle wart v-37 is , and always has been,
the best on Bull.
Jigs, in darker colors, pulled slowly along the chunk rock flats just in the
main lake coves are having some success. The jig to use??? The cheapest you can
find.
Crappie are around the brush piles nearest to the spawn beds that will be used
by this species in the full moons of April and May. These fish are scattered
and will not converge together until the weather gets a degree of stability.
Minnows, swimmin minnows ,and small jigs are the top three baits to use.
Some walleye guides are catching fish trolling a worm or minnow harness over
the humps at the entrances of the feeder streams. These fish are apparently staging
,getting ready to run up stream and spawn. The fish are at various depths ranging
from 16 ft to 23 ft.
White Bass,Hybrid Bass, and Striped Bass are also staging, waiting for some warm
rainfall and warm nights to start their spawning run. They can be found around
the mouths of the major feeder streams in the lake. They will sometimes chase
shad on the surface and can be caught by a variety of surface lures. But this
activity is minor and not regimented. It is only by happen chance to run across
this type of activity. Their main concern is the spawn which will soon occur.
I strongly suspect a significant warm rain will trigger their start.
