The weather like the fishing this year is not anything
like the ordinary year. Record temperatures (90 +) has cause numerous
fishing diversities. This coupled with the fact that feeder streams and creeks
are dry due to the fact that we
are in the 8th year of a 8 year drought has caused even more irregularities.
Relative to the aforementioned criteria Black Bass Crappie,Walleye,
Bluegill,
and White Bass are not in one of their three annual cycles but split into all
three percentage wise. Some are pre-spawn--some spawning--some post spawn. Thus
you will have to choose different methods of fishing.
The spawned out fish will
be trying to recuperate from the rigors of the spawn. They will be suspended
over deeper waters next to a feeding point or some other lake structure. You
will need a graph to find them. Then you will have to vertical fish . Spoons, jigs, and
weighted live bait is best.
The spawning and the fish moving into the spawning
areas are most traditionally caught on LIZARDS and FRENCH FRIES, fished with
a CAROLINA set up. ZOOM is the brand name most popular. The most used colors
are-- PUMKINSEED--WATERMELON---WATERMELON RED -- and WATERMELON SEED.
Sometimes
when conditions are overcast with no wind try using a 6 inch floating worm
on an ultra light rig. The best color appears to be SHERBERT. The best
textured brand lure is the BOOBY JOE LINE made in the CAROLINA.
White Bass are "shoaling " whenever and/or wherever they can find a
running feeder stream. In this area the NORTHFORK and POND FORK above the bridge
at Theodosia has lots of fish spawning. There are plenty of ladders too with
anglers 'grabbing ' SUCKERS. The best time is after dark. Female minnows are
best ,they wiggle better! But look where you are stepping!!! The COTTONMOUTH
are also present in numbers.
