Bass are being caught on Lizards( Pumpkin seed- ZOOM) - 8 inch curl tailed
red worms with a gold flake ( LUCKY STRIKE )- ZARA SPOOKS clear colored)
. Some Bass are still being caught on the beds by a variety of lures, primarily
Tubes. Small mouth Bass are on the main lake flats and are hitting GITZITS.
The brand is not as important as the color which appears to be a brown-mustard
color combination. The Kentucky Bass are starting to school on the main lake
and chasing schools of shad. This is early but the lake water temperature
is also ahead of the regular seasonal.
Crappie appear to be scattered and in the flooded trees ( their normal summer
haunt ). With this in mind they could be caught during the evening with minnows
under lantern light. This normally is in later May but..... I have not tried
this yet but plan to next week.
Blue gill are active and coming in regularly. If you are looking for a spot
to find the big ones try around the dock areas where they are feeding on
the Carp eggs attached to the docks floatation devices. Any bait will work.
My preference is crickets.
Catfish. Primarily BLUES and CHANNELS are now actively feeding on shad in
the off colored waters of the feeder streams. Night crawlers and leeches
seem to be the bait of preference.
I and a friend and colleague of mind., Rick Culver, who writes the fishing report
on the south end of Bull Shoals has been receiving email asking why we only report
on BASS-CRAPPIE-WALLEYE etc and not on such species such as CARP-GAR-DRUM- BUFFALO
We have tried to explain that these species ,although present in our lakes, are
not sought after as a rule and the knowledge on how to catch these fish is extremely
limited. But talking to Tom Hilger ,owner of Biltmore Resort the following photo
was
Obtained:

Attention Bass Anglers and fish record buffs!!! An original copy of the
article( photo included) on the catching of the Missouri State record Largemouth
Bass
as published by the OZARK COUNT TIMES is now in the MAOUT Magazine. Copy's
are available at Big Bobs Tackle-Theodosia Marina- Pontiac Marina.
Remember to keep only what you can eat and release the rest for another
day. Rick Culver of Wilderness Trail does the research for this report
and the writing of this report. For more information call Rick or Sue Culver
