The thermocline is at 25 ft with water visibility at about
4-6 ft at the dock. As you proceed up lake the visibility will increase and
the T-cline will become deeper. The summer is here and basically the day
time bite is from dawn till about 8:30 am. This will vary pending overcast
and wind velocity. Dawn till 8:30 am is high - sunny sky's with no wind.
Black Bass are still on the top water bite early . This changes to plastics
at the t-cline on the main lake points during the day. Finally it will become
somewhat more active during the night. A good bet if you are spooning try
the MEPPS GLO SCYCLOPS 3 . But no matter when you are fishing keep a top
water bait handy to catch surface breaks. If you are bait fishing the small
soft shell crawfish are dynamite if you can find them for sale.
Stripers, hybrids, and white bass are schooled and roaming the deeper sections
of the lake is search of their favorite meal, SHAD. There is no pattern but
again always keep a top water bait handy for surface activity. After they
go deep try and keep with the schools with your electronics and vertically
fish into the schools with either spoons or jigs. On your vertical rod it
will pay to have a depth counter so your drop will be accurate .They devices
range in price and can be purchased at leading tackle outlets. I prefer the
type that can be clipped onto your rod. They are the least expensive.
Crappie are mostly being caught by anglers at night using lights fishing
in the submerged tree lines. Minnows are the preferred bait and the depth
will vary from 20 - 30 ft.
Blue in large numbers and excellent size and being caught on crickets and
worms around 15 ft --20ft deep on the pea gravel flats.
Channel, Blue and some flat head catfish are now being caught regularly at
night by jug and limb line anglers. Although tight line angers are also doing
well fishing from the bank. These fish are not deep and are feeding primarily
on the flats. Live perch are the most used bait but live shad are the best.
Carp are now feeding all night and are being taken on prepared dough bait
around the lit docks.
