Arkansas Lakes Fishing Report
Lake - Bull Shoals 04/29/06 &
05/01/06:
Dam area to Lead Hill: Fun time to fish the lower end of Bull
right now because you can catch fish in a wide variety of ways; Smallmouth
are holding to secondary points near spawning cuts and can be caught on Jewel
spider jigs or shaky head worms, Kentuckies seem to have moved out to deeper
points and can be caught on Jewel Football jigs or Carolina rigged lizards
and french fries, and Large mouth are holding close to spawning areas, some
are on the beds and many are post spawn and cruising, try white tubes for
those on the beds and floating worms for the cruisers.
Lead Hill to Power site: Above Lead Hill it appears most of the fish are
post spawn and are moving to points and humps near deep water. Carolina rigged
lizards, french fries or baby brush hogs are all working well as are Jewel
football and spider jigs matched up with Chomper jig trailers. During low
light hours spooks, pop-r’s and red fins are all effective, target
points and the deep edges of flats work the bait slowly and methodically.

Black Bass, all three species are active and in various stages of activity:
spawn.pre spawn , and post spawn. Various methods of angling will produce
results. The spawning and pre spawning fish are being caught by ZOOM LIZARDS
and FRENCH FRIES. These baits are most productive using the Carolina rig.
The fish just off the beds will hit a crank bait such as a RATTLE TRAP. Early
in the morning and late in the afternoon fish will hit a Top Water bait like
a ZARA SPOOK. Top water action will be good all day if there are windy overcast
conditions.
Crappie are moving to the submerged brush piles with some still destined
to spawn on the full moon of May. Minnows . Small jigs.and swimming minnows
will get results.
White Bass are 'shoaling" and will move
up the streams as far as the depth will allow them. Evening fishing is best
withe minnows or a 1/8th ounce
in line spinner such as a MEPPS. Again let caution you to look for the cottonmouth
snakes when fishing from the shore. My son caught a couple of fish yesterday
and let them on the shore while continuing to fish. The action slowed and
when he went back to retrieve the fish a cottonmouth was ready to feed on
his catch. So please be careful when walking in these areas.
Bluegill are ready to spawn and are active all day long. Any point and sloping
flat will hold these excellent fighting and eating fish. The best bait by
far are crickets.
Be advised that due to the recent rain fall the lake is rising and has a
lot of floating debris, some just below the water level. Please us extreme
caution when Navigating. NOTE.... This will also change some of the spawning
habits to different depth locations.
