Arkansas Lakes Fishing Report
Lake - Bull Shoals 07/03/06
Dam area to Lead Hill: The dam
area has toughened up over the past week with most species of bass moving
out deeper. Look for small mouth to be on pea gravel roll offs into major
creek channels and on the main lake; target these fish with Jewel football
and spider jigs in PB&J or brown / purple flash. Spots are following schools
of shad on steep banks and bluff ends, find the bait and the fish won’t
be far; use spoons and drop shot finesse worms in green pumpkin or watermelon.
Largemouth are getting harder to find, brush piles around docks and on chunk
rock points fished with an Eakins’ jig has been the most productive
method.
Lead Hill to Power site: The top water bite
early and late is still going on but it is not as good as it was a few weeks
back; spooks, sammys and pop-r’s will all catch fish when they are schooling.
For the rest of the day a Jewel football jig in brown / purple flash and Missouri
craw with a green pumpkin 5” Chomper jig trailer or a Carolina rigged
baby brush hog will work in deeper brush piles, on ledges and roll offs in
major creek arms and on the main lake. Look for areas with scattered rock
or wood cover to hold most of the fish.

Night fishing on Bull Shoals is hot and I would strongly suggest giving it
a try.
I have heard good reports from several people. Just about all
game fish are being caught after dark in 25 - 45 ft. on channel swings, bluff
banks and points. Use shiners and small crappie minnows fished under a light.
Jug lines and trotlines baited with live bait are catching some
nice catfish in the 15lb. range.
Bass seem to be just about anywhere
there are shad present. Use shad immitating baits during the day or jigs and
plastic worms at night.
Walleye are still biting crawler
harnesses and crankbaits, solid white with red hooks is my favorite color.
Water temps are in the 80's and about a foot Below normal.
Visibility in the Theodosia area is as clear as it has been
all year.
Remember to
keep only what you can eat and release the rest for another day. Rick Culver
