Arkansas Lakes Fishing Report
Lake - Bull Shoals 08/05/06
Submitted by Bryan Bochert and the gang at TMR 4172734444
Lately it seems like most of the gamefish are
grouped up and following schools of shad or bluegills. Lots of
walleye in the four and five pound Range have been brought to the dock
this past week. Anglers were trolling crawler harnesses or rainbow trout
colored crankbaits in 37-47 ft. of water around main lake points. Black
bass are roaming the shallows and the depths.
Use your fish finder to find schools
of baitfish suspended around points adjacent to the old river
channel or over the edges of deep flats.
Swim a bluegill colored jig or cast
a spoon or a grub around these schooling bass when they push the bait
up to the surface or up onto the points.
At night fish these same areas with
a spinnerbait , jig , or a grub just change the colors of your
baits and fish them at the right depths. This past week the better night
bite was around the bass that were suspended. The shallow fish are around
windy flats and secondary points. A lipless crankbait or a single spin
spinnerbait fished on the flats 6-12ft. deep will work.
A small lightweight carolina rig
with a small finesse bait will work for bass on the secondary points.
Crappie are scattered along the channel bluff banks in the Theodosia
area 12-25ft. drift with jigs or minnows or a combination of both.
Find some brush in 12-25ft.
of water and there will be some crappie there also. Water temps. are
in the 80's and visibility in the Theodosia area is 3-6ft. depending
on boat traffic and wind.

On Bull Shoals, the White Bass action
is hot. Try 50’ to 55’ of water in main lake coves and towards
the back of creek arms. Spoons in white, silver, or blue have been working
best.
There is some early top water Bass
action on smaller lures, off main lake points and bluff walls.
Otherwise there is good nighttime action after 8:00 PM.
Walleye are being caught
mid morning trolling with lead core line using Hot-N-Tots, Glass Shad,
or Wally Divers. Also try bottom bouncers with Smiley blade harnesses
and live Nightcrawlers or Leeches in 30’ to 35’ of water,
off the deeper side of main lake points.
Remember to keep only what
you can eat and release the rest for another day. Rick Culver of Wilderness
Trail does the research for this report and the writing of this report.
