Kentucky Lakes Fishing
Report
Lake - Lake Barkley 03/22/06:
The past two days have been cold and
wet. Not many fishermen
have
ventured to the lakes. Before that crappie fishing was excellent.
The
male crappie have started getting their spawning colors. Vertical
jigging hair jigs like Mister Twister Lighting Bugs has been catching
some really good white crappie.
When the sun has been out black crappie has been caught near the shore in 6' to 8' of water by casting Curly
Tails. The cold and wind the past couple of day has cooled the water a
bit and will slow fishing for at least a few days. As soon as the sun is
out for a couple day crappie will be very good again.
Largemouth have
been hitting jerk baits along the gravel shorelines and points inside
the bays.
Smallmouths have been hitting
small crank baits along the pea gravel shorelines inside the major bays,
especially on Kentucky Lake.
They are in pre spawn and have been hitting well. There haven't been any
reports but they should hit on these cloudy days.
Fishing in the tail
waters has been slow because of the high water.
The dams have been
releasing a lot of water because of the recent rain. When the weather
gets stable fishing will be good again. The water temps are in the mid
fifties and fish have started moving shallow for spring.
TIP: Remember that the warmest water sometimes is along the shoreline.
