KY Lake April 16 2006
Water Level at KY Dam 358.33 summer pool 359.00
Water surface temperature 64 degrees
The water continues to warm and has brought many fish up into the
shallows, some fish have started to prepare there beds and can be seen
cruising through the mustard flowers or grass, many fish were caught and
as
evidence of there spawning mode there tails were bloodied up. The larger
fish still seem to be a little deeper though.
The spawning period will
occur
in waves as all fish do not drop there eggs at the same times, the
moon has
a effect on this timing, some will spawn early wile others are still
preparing and others will wait until the next moon phase. Fishing should
continue to be good throughout the next several weeks with more and
more
fish moving up the banks and into shallow water, continue to look for
shallow water with plenty of cover but not overly shadowed and protected
from wave action. Remember that these fish are there for a reason and
practice catch and release as often as you can to help ensure to sustain
this fishery for years to come.
Largmouth have been taking soft plastics worms and creature baits either
Texas rigged or C-rigging and also were caught on Shaky heads fished shallow
in and around the Mustard flowers, our best success came on Texas rigged
Zoom centipedes in watermelon red color fished very slowly, The larger fish
were hitting crank baits, jigs and Secret Weapon spinner baits in white and
chartreuse fished a little deeper on the channel banks and secondary points
in and around shallow water. Anyone that would like to visit KY or Barkley
Lakes give Mike Wells a call at Inn BY The Lake and he can help make all
arrangements to make sure your stay in the area is a enjoyable experience
