Missouri Lakes Fishing
Report by Steve Wilson
Lake - Lake of The Ozarks 09/27/06:
Fall has arrived in the Ozarks! At least it is supposed to
tomorrow. Cool temps are forecasted for the next few days.
Lake level: 657.70 with minimum generation scheduled
for the next few days. This should hold the lake steady at 657.7 Truman lake:
704.52
Water temps are hanging around the 74 degree mark in the main channel and
water as cool as the mid 60's can be found.
Dam and Gravois areas: Clear. DD 22's are the
way to go here now. Shad colors fished 12'-16' deep on structure with brush.
Crash these baits into the brush to get a reaction strike. If your having
trouble locating brush on structure. Try docks near points. Most of them have
brush besides them. Topwaters also are very productive around docks and main
lake points. Up the Gravois there are a few fish starting to follow the baitfish.
They can be caught around shallow docks with spinnerbaits, crankbaits and
jigs.
Glaize: Clear with some color in the water above
Bucks Marina. The best fishing in this area is within a couple miles of PB2.
The biggest fish are still located in the brush on structure. But with the
cooler temps the DD 22 crashed into the med depth brush has been the ticket.
Shad colors on clear days and Blue/Chart on cloudy days. In the backs of pockets
fish can be caught on docks with jigs and creature baits. Fish the shallow
docks from the front to the back to try and establish a pattern for the day.
They been moving all over the place on the docks.
Nianguas: Clear with stained water in the upper
reaches. Points and docks are holding fish right now. Med-Depth to shallow
docks have been best. The med depth docks and the points are good for DD 22
fishing. And the shallow docks can be fished with flip baits and reaction
lures such as spinnerbaits. Another pattern that is coming into play in this
area is deep docks and condo docks that have plenty of shade. On sunny days
fish can be caught on white jigs swam just under the foam.
Osage River: Clear around Hwy 5 bridge, stained
from 45-60 mile markers and dirty from 65-85 then it clears up again around
Truman Dam. Fish are biting a number of different baits. The better fish are
holding on main and secondary points leading into creeks. They can be caught
on DD 22's and other deep to medium divers. You have to hit a lot of points
to find one that is loaded with fish. Inside the creeks there are some fish
relating to the flats. They can be caught on spinnerbaits and crankbaits.
But the bigger bites are coming on 3/8 Rattleback jigs and creature baits
off of docks. During the warmer sunny days fish are also holding just under
deeper docks. They can be caught on white jigs. Swim these lures just under
the foam.
Thanks and Good Luck!
