North Fork And White Rivers in Arkansas fishing reports
07/14/06:
Fishing on the White. Submitted as a public service by SPRING
CREEK ENTERPRISES 417 273 4859 schnabs@webound.com
With the rain that moved through the area early this week (dropping
over 3" in some spots) the river is pushing really good water.
CFS ratings are at 644 cfs (as of 7-13-2006)which is great fishing water.
With the higher water in the river
it is fishing really well for this time of year. Good numbers are being
caught in both sections of the river. Soft Hackles and Wet Flies are
the go-to's right now along with Stoneflies, Hare's Ears, Copper Johns,
and Micro-Mays.
Don't forget about night fishing
the North Fork, several 20-22"+ fish have been caught this summer
under the cover of darkness and there will be many more. A good set-up
for night fishing is a 9-9.5 ft 7 wt rod, sink tip line, 2x leader and
tippett, and a big nasty fly at the end. I generally use a big Wooly
Bugger in Black, Brown, or even White, a Zoo Cougar, or one of many
other Sculpin patterns.
DS Floated the Bryant the weekend of the 4th.
Three boats in our group. While our sister stream , The North Fork of
the White, had six outfitters put in 976 boats we only saw three other
boats .Yea. Three. I was not looking forward to the anticipated crowds
so I did not even take a rod with me. So much for my anticipatory instincts.
My partner was an optimistic nine year old. I did what Brian advised
and put on a small craw imitating crank bait. Bottom LINE..... He caught
small mouth, Kentucky and goggle eye the entire trip and wouldn't even
let me use his rod for just a couple of casts KIDS!!!! They don't have
any respect !
Brian Wise informed me of this stream
some time ago. His words were factual. I recommend anyone looking
for a good.clean, unpopulated stream(saw only three buildings in 8 miles)
full of fish try the Bryant. We put in at HODGSON MILL and floated to
Warren Bridge. Riverside Canoe rental 417 284 3043 will spot or rent
and provide services on this stream. Don Schnable
