North Fork And White Rivers in Arkansas fishing reports
08/03/06:
Report prepared by BRIAN WISE ,guide, for DAWT MILL 417
284 3540.
River levels right now are at 322, not
too bad considering the time of year but we wish the levels could be
almost double that. Either way the river is fishing really well. During
the summer the North Fork has quite a bit of moss in it making nymphing
in certain spots fairly hard.....enter wet flies. We have been using
old style wet flies along with Soft Hackles and small bead-head Cracklebacks
and doing really well. Wet flies are very possibly the most versatile
flies on the market, swing them, drift them, strip them back, there
is no wrong way to fish them (which means they are also great for beginners.)
That said, nymphing shouldn't be totally ignored,
it is still the #1 style of fishing on the river hands down! Drifting
golden, black, and brown stones while dropping either a #16 copper john,
#20 micro-may, any Hare's Ear, Prince, or Pheasant Tail off of the stone
is fishing good too but be patient with them because there will be quite
a bit of cleaning moss.
Most fish are being caught right now fairly
close to one of the many springs on the river, Rainbow Spring (the start
of the trout water) and just below it is fishing great right now making
Kelley Ford or River of Life Farm the better spots to put-in on the
river for a float. For wade-in trips I would definitely hit Kelley Ford
(and above Kelley at Lamb Shoal), River of Life Farm, and the islands
above Patrick bridge.
Remember to keep only what you can eat and release the rest for another
day. Rick Culver of Wilderness Trail does the research for this report and
the writing of this report. For more information call Rick or Sue Culver
