North Fork And
White Rivers in Arkansas fishing reports
09/30/06:
North Fork of the White River
Water levels are very low on the North Fork, a lot of the area got around
an inch of rain last night and water levels on the river crept up to
265 cfs and with that rise water levels are still around 100 cfs lower
than the 61 year average. Having said that though the river is fish
really well from top to bottom. The Blue Ribbon area is especially fishing
well, from Kelly Ford to River of Life Farm is fishing like it would
with good water! Temperatures lately have been amazing! Highs in the
high 70's to low 80's with some lows dipping into the high 40's is really
stirring the fish up for a little pre-spawn action. The fish aren't
as deep as usual, they are pretty strung out all over the depths, great
time for Wooly Buggers and Wet Flies. Drifting brown or golden stones
with a dropper is still doing really well too and the stone bite is
going to start really picking up within a month or so.
Top Flies right now:
Wet Flies, all sizes
Golden Stone
Copper John
Brown Stone
Hare's Ear
Wooly Buggers
Next week "Fall Outlook for the North Fork"
Bryant Creek
Just like the North Fork water levels are low. The river is runnning
142 cfs and that is around 40 cfs low for the average.
But even with the levels where they are the bite is on! Topwater is
seeing some great action in the early to late morning and the trusty
craw crank baits are tearing them up the rest of the time. For Fly Fisherman
Sneaky Pete's, Squirrel hair craws, Clouser Minnows, and Sparkle Minnows
are doing really well. The biggest Sneaky Pete you can throw is your
best bet which may require a little larger rod, a 6-7wt should do the
trick.

to keep only what you can eat and release the rest for another day.
