Missouri Lakes Fishing Report
Lake - Table Rock 10/05/06:
Kimberling City Area: Just
when things were starting to move we get a heat wave and high pressure
moving the fish back deep. The same points and flats that have been
holding fish continue to hold them they have just moved back out deeper.
Drop shot rigs with Chompers drop shot worms and Zoom finesse worms
have been producing Kentuckies between 35’ – 55’ deep.
There are still a few fish holding on larger boat docks, an Eakins’
jig in PB&J with a green pumpkin Eakins’ craw fished slowly
in the shady areas around these docks will result in a few fish.
James River: Just like in the Kimberling
City area the fall transition up the James River has slowed with onset
of warmer weather. There are still fish in the backs of some of the
creeks when shad are present, throw a R.C. 1.5 or 2.5 repeatedly to
any visible cover if you are targeting these fish. On the main lake
look for fish to be on pea gravel points, flats and roll offs, a Jewel
½ oz. heavy cover finesse football jig in brown / purple flash
with a green pumpkin baby brush hog as a trailer fished through any
rock or wood cover on these spots will produce some nice fish.
White River: Just like in the Kimberling
City area the mid White River has seen fish move out from 25’
– 30’ deep to 35’ – 55’ deep and most
are locked on the bottom. Drop shot rigs and spoons are effective; if
you can get the fish to pull off the bottom the spoon will be better
than the drop shot. The upper White and Kings Rivers are fishing similar
to the James, shallow crankbaits and spinnerbaits in the creek arms
and Jewel football jigs on the main lake have been your best bet.
Dam Area: The fish in the
dam area have also been affected by the warming trend; drop shot fish
are out around 40’ – 60’ deep and holding tight to
either the bottom or any brush and rock piles scattered on the bottom.
A few good smallmouth have been showing up on some of the deeper flats
and roll offs; try a PB&J Jewel ¾ oz. football jig with a
Chomper 4” jig trailer from 25’ – 35’ deep.

White River Area Carolina rigs with green
pumpkin fish doctor or centipedes in watermelon candy in 25-35 feet
deep on main lake gravel points. Drop Shot rigs with Zoom finesse worms
in green pumpkin color and watermelon candy on main lake gravel and
bluff ends in 28-45 feet deep for Kentucky bass.
Fish 5/8 and 3/4 oz. Jewell football head jigs in peanut
butter and jelly or brown and purple on main lake points 25-35 feet
deep is working the best for Kentucky and some Smallmouth bass. For
early morning top water bite use a Cordell Red Fin or Zara spook on
pole timbered points, back in the creeks and on main lake points. White
bass are schooling on flats in the morning and on cloudy days and can
be caught on top water lures and spoons during the day.

crawlers good on gravel points 26-32 feet deep on the main lake.
Upper End-James River Carolina
rigged Zoom centipedes in watermelon red and watermelon candy on main
river gravel points in 15-25 feet deep. Football head jigs in peanut
butter and jelly in 15-25 feet deep is working best for bass. Also use
deep running Shad colored crank baits. Top Water use a spook in shad
patterns on bluff ends and timbered points in early mornings and for
schooling bass. Crappie Crappies fishing has slowed down but some are
still being caught under deeper docks and deep pole timber, but are
scattered. Lake Taneycomo
Trout I'm catching some
nice rainbows and a few browns on a small Rapala in the morning and
also swimming a white 1/16 ounce jig. The trout in the trophy area will
also take pink or green micro jigs under a float and a zebra midge has
also been very good. Below the trophy are from Fall Creek down, the
trout are biting very good on night crawlers or power baits. In the
early morning you can catch them swimming a 1/16 ounce jig or little
Cleo spoon, in line spinners are also good in the mornings.
