Truman Lake Fishing
Reports
Truman Lake: 06/07/06
Fishing Report from Sterett Creek Marina 6/7/06
LAKE LEVEL: 707.66
WATER TEMP: 77 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Clear to lightly stained.
Another great week of weather here at Truman. We had just a little rain and not
a lot of wind with warm temps to get the water warming nicely. The bass fishing
remains good, withe the crappie fishing being spotty on the lake. The fish seem
to be moving in and out so they are kind of hard to find. The guys finding them
are having to try deep to shallow and once they get them located they can do
pretty good.
BASS: The bass fishing is good here on Truman. There is a good bite on the points
in 8' to 12' of water. Big worms are starting to catch good stringers of fish.
The fish still seem to be holding close to the bottom, but with the warm weather
I would think that they will start suspending any day now. Main lake and the
first secondary points are doing the best. Watermelon red or blue fleck are the
best colors. Black buzz baits are working on the flat points early and late.
Last nights hawg fight results were 1 st. place Ernie Cox and Ozzie Wallace with
11.72lbs. and big bass at 3.72lbs. 2nd went to Jerry and Sally Crosthwait with
9.42lbs. 3rd was Lance Estes and Tom Monseers with 7.90lbs.
CRAPPIE: The crappie have been in and out all week. One day they are in 20' of
water and the next they are in 10' to 12' of water. Fish the outside tree rows
on the edge of the flats with minnows. If the fish aren't in the deeper rows
try as shallow as 6'. The key seems to be if there aren't shad popping the top
the fish don't seem to be there. The Berry Bend area and the Hay Creek area seem
to have the best bite going right now.
WHITES & HYBRIDS: The COE has been running a little water in the evenings
and this has picked the white bass fishing up a little. Most of the fish being
caught now are coming trolling the humps out of 16' of water. It is still kind
of hit and miss but I have had a couple of reports of surfacing fish. Small Rat
L Traps and Sassy Shad are the best for these fish. Don't crowd the surfacing
fish or they will go back down.
CATFISH: Catfish are still doing good on Truman. Shallow set trot lines in 4'
to 6' of water baited with leeches seem to be doing the best. Set lines close
to deeper water.
