Truman Lake Fishing Reports

Truman Lake: 07/19/06

Fishing Report from Sterett Creek Marina 7/19/06

Lake Level: 705.69
Water Temp: 86 deg.
Water Clarity: Clear to light stain.

We wanted the water to warm up so the hybrids would start surfacing and we got half of our wish, the water sure warmed up. According to the weatherman we are supposed to get a break from this heat about Friday. That sure won't hurt my feelings. If you are going to fish take plenty of water of Gatorade. Another good idea is to take a couple of milk jugs full of water and freeze them to put in your livewells. I don't like to use ice because of the chlorine and fluoride in the ice. With this kind of heat it doesn't take long to spoil fish in a livewell.

BASS: The bass fishing remains good here on Truman even though this weeks hawg fights didn't show it. Last weekends stringers were in the 16 lb. range and for this time of the year that's good but with the heat yesterday we didn't have many boats. But then again if Kristin Tavano would start paying her entry fees probably more people would show up. ( got ya ).
There is still a suspended bite on jig and frog and big worms. These fish are holding in 12' to 20' and down about 8'. Outside tree rows are a good holding area. There are fish starting to pull up on the brush piles also, same depth. Watermelon red and plum are the better colors. We did here of some carolina rig fish on the timbered humps. Rig with a 4" worm or a smallie beaver.

CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing has picked up a little with the hot weather. We are seeing a better keeper ratio than a couple of weeks ago. Have seen several limits come in this week. The crappie are still on the outside tree rows in 15' to 20' of water, down about 10' to 12'. Minnows are the best bait. This type of fishing should get better as the water gets warmer.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: Steve Blake said he had some nice whites surfacing in the KK Island area last night. They caught their fish by throwing a small spoon through the surfacing fish. There were some good hybrids caught trolling. They were using mag wiggle warts and wally divers. The fish were in 16' of water off the humps.

CATFISH: The catfishing is still good on trot lines. Cut shad and little smokies are the best baits around here. There were a couple of nice flat heads brought in which were caught on black perch. Lines set in 8' of water on the flats next to deep water seem to be working the best. Remember to run lines often with the heat.

That's it for this week from Sterett Creek Marina
