Truman Lake Fishing
Reports
Truman Lake: 09/20/06
Fishing Report from Sterett Creek Marina 9/20/06
Lake Level: 704.68
Water Temp: 73 deg.
Water Clarity: Clear to lightly stained.
The way the weather feels fall has arrived a little early this year.
the water temp is dropping slowly and the fish seem to be enjoying it.
The crappie are starting to move to the points and the whites are moving
on the flats along with the bass. We had our Sterett
Creek Open Tourn. last weekend and even with the wind there were
a lot of fish caught. The results are:
1st. Doug and Ozzie Wallace - 14.53 lbs.
2nd. Marty Watson and Doug Long - 13.34
3rd. Larry Wright and Ron Taddiken - 11.51
4th. Hap Hartman and Dennis Krier - 9.22lbs.
Big Bass - 3.74lbs. Marty Watson and Doug Long.
Team Supreme went out on Sunday and Ozzie Wallace and Ernie Cox took
the honors with 20.26lbs. so as you can see the bass fishing on Truman
is good, and with this weather should continue to get better.
BASS: The bass are starting to move up
on the flats. Spinner baits and jig and frog are the top producers right
now. Fish seem to be holding in 2' to 3' of water early and late. During
the day they are backing off to the first break line in about 6' of
water on the thickest trees. There has been a little top water bite
starting in the backends of the coves on Pop R's and buzz baits.Look
in the 1' to 2' range and look for shad.
CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing continues
to get better. Some of the fish have started to move to the mouths of
the coves and are laying off the points in 20' of water. Minnows are
still the best bait. The brush pile fish are the best bite going. 14'
to 20' brush piles are holding a lot of fish. Fish are holding right
on top of the piles.
WHITES & HYBRIDS: The whites are slowly
starting to pull up on the windy flats. The KK Island area is the hot
spot right now. Rat L Traps and Rooster Tails are starting to work.
Look for the shad and gulls and you you should find a few fish. With
the dropping water temp this will continue to get better everyday.
CATFISH: Same as last week. Jugs on the
flats in 8' to 10' of water next to deep water. Cut shad seems to be
the best bait.
That's it for this week from Sterett Creek Marina
