Truman Lake Fishing Reports

Truman Lake: 10/11/06

Lake Level: 704.40
Water Temp: 67 deg.
Water Clarity: Clear to light stain.

Just another great week weather wise. Had just a little rain and the temps. are perfect. If you are into the fall colors I would say we are about 50 %. I'm not sure how long they will last this year as dry as it is. The deer are starting to move real hard about dark so keep a keen eye when in the lakes area.

The fishing is about the same as last week with the whites starting to pick up a little more. We are supposed to have some cooler weather come in the next couple of days which should keep them up shallow.

BASS: The bass are still about half way back in the coves up on the shallow flats. Spinnerbaits and buzz baits fished in 1' to 3' of water have been working well. There are also some jig fish on the points in 3' to 6' of water. Seems like the first secondary point going into a cove is working the best. Black and blue and MO. craw are two of the better colors. This time of the year it might not hurt to throw a beaver or a tube up on the flats next to laydowns.

CRAPPIE: All I can tell you about the crappie is they are out in the lake some where. I had a couple of reports of fish holding in 30' of water about 25' down. The brush pile fish have moved. The crappie had started to move on the points going in the coves and the weather warmed up and they just kind of disappeared. Anyway the fish in deep water are still coming on minnows. I haven't heard of a jig bite starting yet.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: Every day the wind blows the white bass fishing gets better. We have seen a lot of whites come in out of 2' of water or less. Yesterday guide Steve Blake came in with a 9 1/2 lb. hybrid. I have seen a few small hybrids this week, 2# to 4# fish. Rooster tails, small sassy shad and small Rat L Traps are the best right now. You might even try a 2 1/2" twister tail on a 1/8 oz. head and catch fish. Like I said most of the fish we are seeing are in shallow water so you have to throw right up on the bank, you can't fish to shallow right now.

CATFISH: Jugs on the flats are still the best game in town. Flats in 8' of water fished with cut shad or hot dogs has been producing fish this week. You need to have deep water close by.

That's it for this week from Sterett Creek Marina

Till next week
