Missouri Lakes Fishing Report by Steve Wilson

Lake - Lake of The Ozarks 01/31/07:

The coves are freezing up and the water temps keep on dropping. But the bass still bite on Lake of the Ozarks.

Lake level: 657.14 Medium generation is scheduled for the next few days. This will drop the lake slowly to 657.0, 656.8 and 656.7. Truman lake level: 707.11

Water temp: Temps are around 39-41 degrees in the Bagnell Dam and mouth of the Gravois areas. Water temps are 37-40 in the lower Glaize and Main Osage from Toll Bridge to Hurricane Deck Bridge. The coves are starting to ice over.

Bagnell Dam and Gravois area: Clear with stained water in the upper Gravois. The water temps range from 39-41 in the mouth of the Gravois and goes down as you go above Cedar Creek. With the falling lake level, points and channel swings have been holding the bulk of the fish. Deep water close into the bank is key. Medium to deep diving jerkbaits in shad colors are taking fish. Fish them really slow in this cold water. Football jigs are also working in the same locations. A lot of these fish are holding on the bottom. It is warmer down there then it is closer to the surface. ½ and 5/8 Football jigs in PBJ and Blk/Blue fished 12'-30'. Sometimes you can find them with the jerkbait and catch a few extra of the spot with a jig.

Glaize area: Clear with stained water in the upper Glaize. The fishing is good in the lower Glaize. The water temps are 37- 40 degrees from PB 2 to Hwy 54 Bridge. 37 is the back of the coves and 40 is on the main lake bluffs (sunny side). Jerkbaits and jigs have been catching the bulk of the fish. Steep bluffs and points are best. Fish the shad colored jerkbaits slowly. And once you catch a fish there is usually a few more bunch up with it. Fish the jigs right up against the rock bluffs. If the fish are shallow up on the rocks. The 5/16 size works great. If they are holding on the bottom of the deep holes and rock slides of bluffs. ½ football head style jigs work best.

Osage from the Toll Bridge to Hurricane Deck Bridge: Clear with slightly stained water in the Hurricane Deck Bridge area. The fishing is better as you go down the lake towards the Toll Bridge. The water temps are way too cold above Hurricane Deck Bridge. Most of the coves are freezing up really good in this area. And it is hard to find water temps out of the 30's. All the fishing in this area will be main lake points and just inside the creeks. The patterns are the same as the lower parts of the lake. But the fishing is not. If you have a bank that is loaded with fish it is still possible to get a bite or two off of it. But you want to catch fish right now stick with the lower lake area.

Thanks and Good luck!
