Missouri Lakes Fishing
Report by Steve Wilson
Lake - Lake of The Ozarks 03/07/07:
What a difference a week can make. Warm temps and some warm
rain have raised the water temps to a more tolerable range. It still is cold
in areas and some coves froze up Sunday mourning. But I haven’t seen
any ice since Sunday. So that’s a step in the right direction.
Lake level: 654.27 Light generation is scheduled for the next
few days. This should hold the lake steady at 654.25 for the next few days.
Truman lake level: 707.5
Bagnell Dam and Gravois area: Clear with stained
water in the upper Gravois. The water temps range from 40-mid 40's in the
afternoon. This is a great place to search out warmer water. The whole Gravois
and Northshore (Dam area) is fishable. Jerkbaits and channel bluffs and points
are taking good fish. Now there isn’t a fish on every bluff or point.
But if you fish these spots slowly you will find the ones that hold fish.
Also this is your best bet of catching a fish of a lifetime. I have seen it
happen a couple times all ready since last week. The best jerkbaits are Rogues,
pointers 100 and 78 and MegaBass vision 110. The best colors seem to be shad
colored. Jigs are also taking there share of fish in the same areas. Finesse
and football jigs fished on the bottom in the same areas as the jerkbait.
The jigs are catching the fish that aren’t suspended.
Glaize area: Clear with stained water in the
upper Glaize. The water temps are 37-40 degrees from PB 2 to 54 bridge. The
water is still really cold here. The fish are suspended off the points and
bluffs in the 8'-12' range. These fish are being caught on shad colored jerkbaits.
The shad are starting to die off because of the cold water temps. The bass
are taking advantage of this. Pointer 100's, Rogues and MegaBass jerkbaits
all are working good. There are also fish to be caught on the jig much the
same way as in the lower end. Bluffs with rock slides, points and swings are
best. The football jig works the best out there. Where the finesse jig works
best inside the creeks.
Osage from the Toll Bridge to Hurricane Deck Bridge:
Clear with slightly stained water in the Hurricane Deck Bridge area.
The water is still really cold up here. It is going to be a little while more
before the river starts turning on. The fishing is better toward the toll
bridge where you can find some warmer water. After this week the river will
be more fishable. It is a little warmer up there due to runoff. But a long
week of warm afternoons and some warm rain over the weekend will help the
situation up here. This has been a different year as far as the winter is
concerned. So you can’t go by what happened last year or the year before.
Everything is going to be a couple weeks behind schedule.
Thanks and Good luck!
