Missouri Lakes Fishing
Report by Steve Wilson
Lake - Lake of The Ozarks 03/07/07:
The changing weather conditions makes for interesting fishing
on Lake of the Ozarks. But big fish are still biting. I have had 4 people
fishing with me catch the biggest bass of their lifetime in the past two weeks.
Two of those fish were 9 # ers. That’s pretty good fishing for this
part of the country.
Lake level: 655.43 Light generation is scheduled for the next
few days. This should drop the lake to 655.30 in the next few days. Truman
lake level: 706.99
Bagnell Dam and Gravois area: Clear with stained
water in the upper Gravois. The water temps range from 45-mid 50's. The wide
range of water temperature and color make this a very popular fishing area.
The larger fish are being caught out of the mouth of the Gravois and North
Shore area on shad colored jerkbaits in the cooler water. Main and secondary
points have been best for the jerkbait. Jigs are producing in the creeks.
(coves) Fish 1/4 to 5/16 finesse jigs and chomper grubs 2'-8' deep around
the docks on the chunk rock banks. Warts are also working good as you go up
the Gravois or into the bigger creeks.
Glaize area: Clear with stained water in the upper Glaize.
The water temps are 44-low 50's. Their still are fish suspended off the points
and bluffs in the 8'-12' range. These fish are being caught on shad colored
jerkbaits in the cooler water. Chompers grubs are working good on the pea
gravel banks near channels. Warts are starting to work good also. Phantom
green is a pretty good color in these clear conditions.
Nianguas: Clear to slightly stained. Water temps range from
45 at the mouth to mid 50's. In the cool water fish can be caught on jerkbaits,
jigs and wiggle warts. This weeks rains will hopefully bring some color into
the rivers and improve the bite in this area. Bright red warts and spinnerbaits
will work good then. Fish the channel banks right in front of the pea gravel.
A good back up bait to the two reactions baits is the finesse jig.
Osage River: Hurricane Deck Bridge to Truman Dam. Clear
to stained in the upper portions. We haven’t had very much rain. If
we do get some flooding conditions that pretty much eliminates the river for
a few days. But not much rain yet. A little rain will bring good color to
the backs of the creeks. Right now the fishing is good in the Osage. Not as
good as on the lower end. But there are less fish in the upper end. The water
is a little cooler in the Osage. It ranges from 45-low 50's. The fish are
on the chunk rock banks. They have been there since the cold front came through
last Thursday. Another good warm up will bring them to the pea gravel. Wiggle
warts and jigs fished on secondary points and chunk rock banks has been real
consistent. But other patterns will emerge as the warm rains dirty and warm
up the lake.
Thanks and Good luck!
