Missouri Lakes Fishing
Report by Steve Wilson
Lake - Lake of The Ozarks 06/20/07:
Heavy generation from both Dams is producing just the right
amount of current for a great structure bite!
Lake level: 659.7 with heavy generation scheduled for the next few days.
The lake should raise the lake to around 659.95 Truman: 708.0
Water temps 78-82 degrees
Dam and Gravois areas: Mostly stained with some clear water
in some places in the Gravois. With all the current going through the main
lake. Points and main lake structure fishing has been the way to go. The water
has cleared up some and the fish have moved a little deeper. The baits to
catch them remain the same with Texas rigs and Carolina rigs taking the bulk
of the fish. Football jigs and deep diving crankbaits have also been top producers.
Start up shallow on the points and work your way out deeper till you get a
bite. The points are best to start because they are the easiest to find and
fish. Take a mental note of the depth you caught that point fish. And try
to catch another one around that depth. If you catch a couple off points around
14'-16' for example you can look for off shore structure (Humps and channel
swings) in that depth range. These harder to locate structure spots are the
best.
Glaize: Stained with pockets of clearing water. Points and
main lake structure is the way to go here also. Fish can be caught on the
same lures as above. Fish structure with brush for the best results. Fish
are anywhere from 8' down to 20'. A great way to catch a bunch of 4-6# fish
right now in this area is to fish a 10" black Power worm at night on
these same structure spots. You can texas rig it or carolina rig. But the
texas rig gives you more control.
Nianguas: Clear to stained. The first couple of miles around
the 5 bridge are though. The structure fishing is really good in this area.
Points, humps and river channel ledges are holding fish. If there is brush
sunk in any of these that’s better. But you don’t have to have
brush to hold fish on structure. Use carolina rigs and deep crankbaits to
probe the structure. If you run into any brush or boulders mark them and fish
them again with a texas rig or football jig. On rainy or cloudy days these
same points hold fish up shallow where they can be caught on topwaters.
Osage River: Stained to muddy. Lots of current passing through
here. Fish can be caught on main river points and points just inside the creeks.
Jigs and carolina rigs are taking quality fish. In side the creeks some shallow
fish can be taken on spinnerbaits and topwaters early and on overcast days
around the shallow docks. During the day the most dependable pattern within
the creeks has been pitching a 10" power worm or creature bait to the
deeper docks with brush.
