Missouri Lakes Fishing Report by Steve Wilson

Lake - Lake of The Ozarks 11/01/07:

The lake is really fishing like October now. The water temps are the same as they were last year at the beginning of Oct.

Lake level: 657.73 with minimum generation scheduled for the next few days. This should hold lake around 657.7 Truman 707.17

Water temps: 62-68 degrees

Dam and Gravois areas: Clear.  The deep bluff football jig pattern is just started getting dependable. You still have to fish a lot of bluffs to find the good ones. Points and rock slides in the middle of bluffs have been best. They are not always deep. But relating to the boulder rocks on the ledges in 8'-25' Larger football jigs are working good in PBJ and Blk/blue colors.  Some fish are relating to docks in creeks and coves. They can be caught on Jigs and other pitching lures. The ones busting shad schools can be caught on spinnerbaits and crankbaits but are running small. There are also a few fish being caught on DD 22. The best way to get bit on it has been to crash it into dock brush. This is a good way to get a reaction strike from a good one.

Glaize: Clear to Stained. This cold weather will help the bite in the lower Glaize. The bass are starting to follow the shad around in the little creeks. They are setting up on docks and secondary points ambushing shad. They can be caught on topwaters, spinnerbaits and crankbaits. The better fish have been deeper in the docks where they can be caught pitching jigs. There are some fish relating to the buff walls around the mouth of the Glaize. But just like the lower end. You need to fish a lot of bluff to find the sweet spot. Points and rock slides have been the best. The fish are holding on the ledges and boulders. So brush isn’t important.

Nianguas: Clear to Stained. The bass are moving around a lot in this portion of the lake. One day you catch them good. The next you can’t catch one. Really they are doing that all over the lake. That is just fall fishing. Later in the day spinnerbait s and jigs fished right against the rocks is producing. The DD 22 is also working good in the lower Nianguas near Hwy 5 Bridge and the mouth of the Little Niangua. Point docks with brush are excellent targets for the DD 22. Fat Free Shad 3/4 ounce also works good.

Osage river: Clear to Stained around Hurricane Deck and Stained to Muddy in the upper portions of the river. The fish have been following the baitfish around in the creeks. Early they have been relating to points. And they have been traveling up the creeks as the day goes on. For example they might be on a main lake point early then halfway back in the creek in a pocket in the afternoon. The fish are biting on diving crankbaits and slow rolled spinnerbaits. The fish relating to docks can be caught pitching jigs and plastics.  But the whole key this time of year is following the baitfish, That is all bass think about!!!

Thanks and Good Luck!!!
