Missouri Lakes Fishing
Report
Lake - Lake of The Ozarks 06/08/05:
District 78 Tackle Shop fishing report from Red Oak Resort
The fishing is still good in the mid lake area from the Glaize to about Proctor
Creek. Bass, crappie, bluegill, and cats are all biting good on various baits.
Bass: The bass are biting very good on Texas and Carolina
rigged brush hawgs and worms. Natural colors such as watermelon, green pumpkin
and red shad are all producing good fish in 8-10 feet of water with some fish
beginning to show summer patterns on deeper brush piles. A few people have
reported catching fish on deep cranks. The topwater bite of last week has
deminished considerably as has the spinnerbait and fluke bite.
Crappie: The crappie are still out around the 15-20 foot
mark on brush. Yellow jigs, chart tubes and live baits are the best bet. To
find fish over 11 inches much moving is required with only 1 or 2 quality
fish coming from each piece of cover. Limits are still being caught of good
fish , but it requires 4-6 hours of fishing.
Bluegill : The giant 'gills never really got going this year.
We caught many barely hand size fish over the last couple weeks and many are
still there, just no size to them. Live baits such as wax worms, red wigglers
and crickets are all catching average to small fish. They are still on the
banks or along the docks in shallow, 2-6 feet of water.
Catfish: The cats are getting hot with many 15 plus pound
fish being caught by trotlines and jug fishermen this week. The flatheads
are starting to show up in good numbers along with the blues and channels.
Live baits for the flatheads such as shad and goldfish especially after dark
are working best. For blues, many are trolling cut shad in 10-20 feet of water
at a slow speed.
The channels in the 3-7 pound range are being caught on nightcrawlers, minnows,
and prepared ( stink ) baits in 15 feet or less of water from either boat
or bank.
White Bass: I have no report of any white bass activity this
week. The guys are not fishing for them right now.
Good luck and be careful this week.
